Beginners Guide to Article Writing for Search Engine Optimization

When writing an article for your web site’s promotion or an advertising campaign while keeping search engine optimization in mind is easy and straight forward. When writing for search engine optimization, SEO, is a little different than other forms of writing.

Have a Topic or Subject
The topic or subject should be a narrow vision or slice of a broader topic, also known as a niche. Additional articles can be written to expand on the overall topic or niche at a later time, thus adding to your websites overall content.

Make a Short List of Keywords
These keywords should be 4 or 5 key points or highlights of the article that will be written. These keywords should be descriptive words that people use all the time to describe a particular product, service or piece of information. This is an important part of SEO article writing because these common terms or keywords will be indexed by the search engines for retrieval when someone uses these keywords. This is how visitors will find your website, thus the term “Search Engine Optimization”. The keywords you have chosen are not necessarily single words, they can be two to three word phrases.

Writing the SEO Friendly Article

You should start by making a simple outline of the article. An outline is 3 or 4 main topics that you will cover in your article. Then expand the outline into paragraphs each consisting of 4 to 6 sentences. SEO articles should have between 300 to 500 words. (As we said above, additional articles can be written if needed) Write your article as you would any other, let the creativity flow and continue to rewrite the article until you are satisfied. Now, read the article looking for places or phrases where you can insert your keywords, rewrite the sentences as needed to fit the newly added keywords.

Make sure the sentences make sense, although search engines won’t know bad grammar from good grammar, your visitors will. As the Internet is based on content your visitors will mind the bad grammar. Once you turn your readers away, it’s almost impossible to bring them back.

You must proofread your SEO article, read it out loud if needed. Do not rush to have it published, take a break and then read it again, then your article is ready for publishing. The problem with SEO writing is that your thoughts might come in blocks, a bit here and a bit there. While proofreading the SEO article make sure one paragraph flows on to the next.

Remember these simple steps to writing an article which is search engine ready, search engine optimized and ready to bring visitors to your online business.
