The basic banner started in 1994 by AT&T on Hotwired. They were initially used as a way to raise funds by webmasters without physically asking its viewers for donations. The traditional banner ads function became more of a graphic bringing brand awareness of a businesses product or service. Nowadays they still deliver the same reminders to visitors about your message and / or branding. Sure, They are not what they used to be, but it’s still an integral part of an online marketing campaign.
